Immersed Activity

Laila Gamaleldin

Overview

Immersed is a virtual co-working space. It allows teams to come together in a quiet, coffee-shop-like environment to work collaboratively. Key feature of the application include allowing users to share their screens in VR, transport their keyboard into VR and control it with their hands, and enter video calls as their VR avatar.

Setup Guide

Downloading the app in the headset:

  • In your headset, navigate to the Oculus store and download the Immersed app

  • Open the app and accept all the permissions that it asks you for

Downloading ImmersedVR on your local machine:

  • Navigate to this link and follow the setup instructions to pair your laptop and headset

You should now have a screen that looks like this. When you click on your computer, your desktop should come up in VR.

Activating hand controllers:

  • Exit the app and go into your headset's settings

  • In settings, click on Device > Hands & Controllers, and turn on Hand Tracking

    • You might get a pop-up tutorial here, be sure to complete it.

  • Go back into Immersed and try the hand controls in there to get a hang of it

  • You might get a pop-up tutorial here as well, which you might find valuable for getting used to hand controls in the app, which are slightly different.

Calibrating Virtual Keyboard:

  • Bring your headset close to your keyboard and make sure you have good lighting.

  • Under your VR keyboard, there should be a small circle for calibrating your virtual keyboard. Click it.

  • Follow the calibration instructions that come up on your screen. Once you're done, you should be able to see an overlay of your laptop's keyboard within your headset.
