Screen Capture/Recording on Quest
By George Lee, updates by Jakobi Haskell
Requirements
This tutorial will take you through screen capturing on the Meta Quest and transfering the files to your computer
Tutorial
Oculus Link
If you are connecting to your own Windows PC, then you are likely using Quest Link, which has a different way of taking screenshots.
Open up the menu by clicking the Quest button on your right controller
Click the ellipsis menu (three dots) above the clock on your right side
Press the screenshot icon (looks like a cropped photo)
Button Shortcut
The easiest way to take a screenshot/recording on your Quest is using the built-in button combination.
Screen capture: press and hold the Oculus button on the right controller, then press but do not hold the trigger (the ones your index fingers rest on) on either controller ( I find that the left is easiest) while still holding the Oculus button.
If you do it right, you’ll hear a sound and should see a notification that you captured a screenshot. Don’t hold the Oculus button for too long, or you’ll re-center your view instead. You must hit the trigger while you see the Oculus logo circle filling up in front of you.
Screen recording: Starting a recording is similar to screen capture except that you press and hold the trigger that you're index fingers rest on until a notification pops up in the bottom that indicates that you are recording. Stopping a recording is the same process as starting one.

In-Menu
You can also take screenshots by opening the menu, which takes a bit more time.
Open up the menu by clicking the Oculus button on your right controller
If you are in an app you should see options to Record Video or Take Photo
Alternatively you can click the Camera button in the menu to pull up the photos library to find the buttons and is where you will find all of your videos and photos as well
2. When you click on either Record Video or Take Photo you will see a red dot on the top right corner
For Photos, it will take a photo after 5 seconds and you will hear a click when it is done
For Videos it will start recording and you have to open the menu again to stop the video
3. You can now wait until your library syncs and then access your media from the Meta Quest Mobile or Desktop App.
4. If syncing is taking too long, open the camera app, click the three dots menu next to the media you want to sync, and click Sync Now
Cable Transfer
5. Alternatively from point 3, once you have your videos you can plug in your Meta Quest to your computer via USB and make sure you Allow data transfer in your Quest
On Windows, Oculus Go will automatically appear as a drive on your computer.
On Mac, you'll need to install Android File Transfer to successfully transfer files between your Oculus Go and computer.
On Chromebook/Chrome OS, you'll need to use the Files app to access your Oculus Go headset.
6. You should now be able to drag and drop files to your computer
Your screenshots are in Oculus -> Screenshots
Your videos are in Oculus -> VideoShots
Record video on Windows O.S using oculus quest 2
If you are using quest 2 on Windows O.S, pressing the oculus button might take you out of the application and wonn't let you take screenshots ot record video. An easy workaround is installing OBS studio and its plugin OB-Studio-VR.
Download and install OBS studio for Windows O.S
Download OBS studio VR
Unzip OBS studio VR. You will see two folders 'data' and 'obs plugins'
Open the location where OBS studio is installed in your machine. Typically is on C:\Program Files\obs-studio
Copy and paste the 'data' and 'obs plugins' folders form the OBS Studio VR unzip folder to where OBS studio is installed.
Accept to overwrite files if the window pops up.
Open the OBS studio application.
IN the sources panel, click on the + button and select 'OpenVR capture' from the list.
You should be able to see in OBS studio the same scene from the quest 2.
To record a video, click on the 'Start recording' button in the 'Controls" panel at the right side of the window.
Likewise, to stop the recording , click on the 'Stop Recording' in the 'Controls' panel.
