Project Ideas
sleep apnea/ mouthbreathing
Three-dimensional photography for the evaluation of facial profiles in obstructive sleep apnoea
predictive value of 3d photogrammetry for sleep apnea
maybe apply this to mouthbreathing in general
can be used for educational purposes?? Visuals are influencing to parents
3d slicer, AmirA
population demographics? How neg are its effects?
action 1: finding data on sleep apnea/mouthingbreathing metrics,
action 2:
action 3: creating a predictive visual/tool that can show face morphing due to mouthbreathing (may only be actually relevant for children who are still in their primary develepment processes though...)
class activity:
lunar cycles in predicting volcanic eruptions or a dive into how moon phases affect the tides.. or sleep?
Sensitivity to lunar cycles prior to the 2007 eruption of Ruapehu volcano
action 1: analyzing past data and correlational data between seismic events and tide cycles (ViSit?)
action 2:
action 3: implement a visualized prediction, on scale, between tide and volcanic eruptions?
class activity: demonstrating the use of the predictive tool by manipulating correlational data
epidemiological study of hookworms vs human autoimmune response
cross-analysis of hookworm eradication in the US, autoimmune disorder prevalence, education/agriculture
world-wide population study?
DISEASE AND DEVELOPMENT: EVIDENCE FROM HOOKWORM ERADICATION IN THE AMERICAN SOUTH
action 1: amalgamating U.S. data on hookworm eradication, autoimmune disorders, and economic factors (mainly work and education) to analyze further with population and time demographics
action 2: using blender for 3d visualization (ex)
action 3: understanding how hookworm affects the body ()
class activity: creating a (n interactive?) simulation from the eyes of a hookworm on its lifecyle through the human system?
evaluating Toxoplasmosis gondii's influence on human neuro systems
Latent Toxoplasmosis gondii: Emerging Evidence for Influences on Neuropsychiatric Disorders
action 1: using MRI data and 3d slider (vs tomopy?) to visualize brain mapping- toxoplasma cysts in the brain and grey matter distribution
action 2: full comparision chart of different VR modeling softwares
not much is known as to how it affects the brain...
evaluating spotify + how music affects the brain/ influences demeanor
action 1: population and age metrics - can what different age groups listen to hold predictive power? genres + artists by both location and volume
action 2: virtual music + spotify web api + MRI 3d visualization software to visualize how different music shapes the brain or holds influential power
classroom activity: interactive environment where users can listen, react and compare with other users?
coral reefs/beach cleanup
Select one project from your list of potential projects and create a plan for your project. This project plan should have milestones to be delivered on 2/15, 2/17, 2/22 (2/24 is a holiday), 3/01, 3/03, 3/08, and 3/10. The project plan should include activities that span from February to the middle of March
The reason tidal triggering has been so controversial over the years is that it’s incredibly hard to see [in seismic data]
https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/ngdc.html
milestones:
2/15: have decided on which areas to focus on + located usable data [past earthquake bounds, past volcanic bounds, current areas of concern?]
2/17: have concrete metrics from data to focus on for use - (could I use x to influence 3d models?, how to best visualize tidal data/more discrete tremors, etc.) visualization rather than prediction?
2/22: (based on 2/17) formal comparison of different visualization tools [are there software to automatically generate, modeling with Blender+Unity?]
///EDIT: Should 2/22 be for mid March ? to have a fully drawn out comparison before beginning the actual modelling implementation? I'm not certain of the doability of my march plans(below) in this time frame
3/01: have some sort of 3d photogrammetry/visual model complete in terms of tide cycle with extensibility to be morphed
3/03: 3/01 but for representation of ground layer
3/08: use data to implement simulation?
3/10: have data visualization in VR that can actually [potentially a video type demonstration for now? - next goal would be to implement more interaction..]
in class activity: assessing comparison from 2/22 and getting feedback, or later on - assessing VR visual from 3/10
naraganssett bay data - https://ridatadiscovery.org/#/
Datasets
NOAA - Tides in the US ; XML/JSON/CSV - cannon beach - closest is cape dissapointment https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaatidepredictions.html?id=9440581 (predictions & water levels)
WashU axial seamount catalog - daily HYPO71 data (computer program for determining hypocenter, magnitude and first motion pattern of local earthquakes)
potential deliverables: [what future readers of the wiki will look at and learn from]
add use case examples/visuals where missing to the different softwares listed on the wiki
perhaps a yes-no flowchart/butterfly chart to help look at vr software that best matches their purposes
brainstorming software evaluation metrics:
ease of use (implementor)
intuitiveness (viewer)
expansion of ideas - to what extent does the software open new ways of thinking about the subject, or new questions?
