The same group of researchers also discovered the significance of font size in reading within virtual reality (VR). They introduced a novel unit of measurement called distance independent millimeter (dmm), which ensures a consistent display of characters across various distances and VR screens. This unit has gained widespread acceptance in both industry and research. In one particular study that employed the dmm unit, the researchers investigated text box size, text size, and user preferences. The findings revealed that an angular text size of approximately 41dmm with a variation of +/- 14 dmm was recommended. The participants expressed a preference for white text on a black background and sans-serif fonts like Arial, as opposed to serif fonts such as Times New Roman.

Another group of Scientists from Keio University Graduate School of Media Design has also found that the text box size and the ratio also have impact on users' reading speeds. They found preferred height of the text box was 7.3 ± 1.7 lines and the preferred width was 40 ± 6.5 characters. The preferred vertical position was −1.0 ± 2.6 degrees from the horizontal, corresponding a small movement down of the center of the text box.
