IATK: Immersive Analytics ToolKit

System Requirements:

  • Windows

  • Some Linux

  • NO MACS(Don't have geometry/compute shaders).

IATK is a toolkit to visualize multivariate data, but preferably quantitative with some room for qualitative data.

Looking at the charts in three dimensions allows you detect multiple types of trends if the data is associated with each other.

For instance, I could look at the stocks on the x-axis and volume of trades on the y-axis to identify large stock trades.

Metrics

Accessibility: The estimated time for someone to create the most basic application of IATK

  • Beginner: No coding or graphics experience | 40 minutes

  • Intermediate: Some coding or graphics experience | 10 minutes

  • Advanced-Expert: Both coding and graphics experience | 2 minutes

Power: The engine's power - i.e. how much one can do with this

  • Narrow, but High: CSV only compatibility cause the possibilities to be limited, but as a viewer of data, it serves the purpose nicely. Around 6000+ points causes lag on some machines, likely for most consumer VR experiencesit would best to keep CSV point count to about 3000.

Usage: Evaluation of software's use for the following purposes

  • General data trend analyses

  • Walking through cool data sets.

There is also interesting interaction mechanisms available in IATK.

Brushing and Linking allows a controller by hover to highlight dots on a dedicated key graph to corresponding linked graphs. Users could use this to investigate and check claims quickly. This excerpt from IATK's repo is sufficient, but is prone to issues, more in the tutorial.
