Needed Materials

Setting Up Sidequest + APK

You should be familiar with this by now :)

If you’ve already completed previous activities using SideQuest, you may skip this step.

1. Download SideQuest:

   • Go to SideQuest and download the Desktop app that matches your operating system.

2. Create an Account:

   • If you haven’t already, sign up for a SideQuest account.

3. Download the APK File:

   • Download the APK here.

4. Connect Your Headset:

   • Plug your headset into your computer via USB and power it on. Make sure it's discoverable.

5. Install the APK:

   • Follow the instructions on this guide to sideload the APK file to your headset.

INstructions

Most of the instructions are included in the app! Some notes:

• Accept all permissions the app asks for.

• Read the sentences out loud!

• You will start in a black VR space, then move to passthrough.

• Use the A button only to move between sentences, doing so the moment you are done reading.

• Things may change rapidly and unexpectedly -- that's okay! Continue reading the sentences as best you can.

• Some things may be difficult to read accurately or efficiently. Do your best!

• Try to read as fast as you can comfortably do so.

• If you have any type of vision correction, please continue to wear it!

• Please fully exit the app when you are done with the test -- press the Meta button, then press quit.

Post-TEst Instructions

The app creates a spreadsheet of your data from the test. To get this, follow the instructions here from Meta on how to extract files from the Quest headset on Windows, and this guide if you're on Mac.

The spreadsheet is under Quest 3 -> Internal -> Android -> data -> com.connorf.TextExploration -> files -> export.csv. "export.csv" is the needed file, please move this to an accessible place on your computer.
