Welcome! This activity explores how Augmented Reality (AR) can be used to visualize musical diversity across Latin America. While grouped together culturally and geographically, Latin American countries each have distinct musical identities. This project invites you to engage with those sonic differences in an immersive way.
If you were able to sideload and launch the APK on your Meta Quest headset, here’s how it was intended to work. This app was a test build of my Latin American music MR experience, where you would be able to explore flags representing different countries and hear regional music clips in Augmented Reality.
If you’ve already completed a SideQuest setup earlier this semester, feel free to skip Steps 1 and 4!
Step-by-Step:
Download the SideQuest Desktop App and create an account if needed:
https://sidequestvr.com
Download the APK file (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dquDyDFUIcb_ddTJi-X86NIDvJBsp3Rc?dmr=1&ec=wgc-drive-globalnav-goto)
Plug your Meta Quest headset into your computer, and open the SideQuest app
If this is your first time using SideQuest, follow the First Time Setup on this guide
In SideQuest, click the “Install APK file from folder on computer” button (top bar, icon looks like a box with a down arrow)
Select the APK you downloaded
Once installed, put on your headset and go to:
Apps → Unknown Sources → “LASTLAST”
(this was the placeholder name for my build)
This project explores how immersive interaction design affects the way we understand and reflect on cultural data — in this case, musical identity across regions.
The following modes were compared (planned):
• 3D AR interaction: selecting floating flags in passthrough mode
• 2D data source: exploring Spotify country pages or artist playlists on a flat screen
You're invited to think about the following:
"How does embodiment and spatial immersion shape your perception of culture, not just data?"
One of my last tries before I stopped.
