4. Bring charged laptops and Oculus Quest 2 devices to class.

Brief Intro:

In this activity, we will work in groups to visualize a simple set of data and compare the experience of data visualization and collaboration using Horizon Worlds, Horizon Workrooms, and Google Workspace. The purpose of this activity is to understand how VR technology can enhance data visualization, collaboration, and communication in various workspaces.

Here’s the data to visualize: VR headset unit sales worldwide 2019-2024

Groups:

• Melvin, Ashley, Vincent, Camilo

• Lexi, Austin, Liza, Prof. Laidlaw, Jakobi

• Mohammed, Yuanbo, Dave, Brian

Google Workspace

Estimated Time: 5 min

Device: laptop

1. Discuss which Google application(s) to use and assign a person to open one and invite others to collaborate.

2. Start a timer. Create a visualization (chart, graph, etc.) of your assigned data. Record the time used after finishing the creation.

3. Explore the data visualization and discuss the pros and cons with your group members.

Horizon Workrooms

Device: Oculus Quest 2

1. Assign a person to host a workroom and invite others to join (here’s how).

2. Start a timer. Create a visualization of your assigned data (using the whiteboard feature is suggested, but feel free to explore more ways). Record the time used after finishing the creation.

3. Explore the data visualization and discuss the pros and cons with your group members.

Device: Oculus Quest 2

1. Assign a person to open an empty world and invite others to collaborate (here’s how).

2. Start a timer. Create a visualization of your assigned data (using cubes to create a bar chart is suggested, but feel free to explore more ways). Record the time used after finishing the creation.

3. Explore the data visualization and discuss the pros and cons with your group members.
