Amanda Levy's Finalized Project 1 Plan

    • Project Goal

      • Collaboratively Visualize the Progression of Female Participation in the Olympics Over the Past 120 years

    • Research Questions

      • What is the change in female participation over the past 120 years broken down by area of the world and then, even more zoomed in, by country?

      • How has the change in female participation evolved over the past 120 years for each sport?

    • Motivation

    • Milestones

      • 2/15

        • Virtualitics is downloaded, and I have a basic understanding of the software and its capabilities

      • 2/17

        • the dataset has been exported from Kraggle to Virtualitics

      • 2/24

        • have a visual representation of how the percentage of women competitors has changed over the years

      • 3/01

        • have a more detailed visual representation of how the percentage of women competitors has changed over the year by area of the world and then by country

      • 3/03

        • finalized and executed (on that date) the class activity (see below for details)

      • 3/08

        • have a different perspective of the visual representation of how the percentage of women competitors has changed over the years by having a sport comparison

      • 3/10

        • a page under the Virtualitics page in the Wiki with this example of a virtual museum layout of the graphs and charts depicting female participation over the years in the Olympics.

        • a confirmation that the Virtualitics commentary on the Wiki is consistent with my experience

        • special exhibit in the virtual museum that features collaboration takeaways from class activity

    • Class Activity

      • I'm going to split the class into 7 regions of the world and have each group use VR to explore the museum presentations for their region. After 20 minutes of exploration, I am going to have each group share their favorite graphs/charts that sparked discussion between the group or would prompt a discussion with another region of the world. After each group shares, we will discuss any thoughts about the compilation of each groups' graphs/charts. After the class, I will copy all of the graphs/charts mentioned by each group and place them into a special exhibit that is meant to spark discussion. The exhibit is meant to be used in the future for classes to once again be split into regions of the world and visit this room each with a focus on how their region is represented and relates to the other regions. The exhibit is set up such that the groups are all looking at the same room and can discuss together this compilation of graphs/charts from their assigned regions.
