Amanda Levy's Project 2 Finalized Plan
Project Goal
visualize the progression of female participation in the Olympics over the past 120 years, but with this project, there will be a greater focus on ensuring that collaboration is readily available and accessible.
Research Question
Focusing on the CDA scenario of the Seven Scenarios
How does Immersion Analytics support collaboration efforts amongst users when viewing datasets in VR?
Specifically, I will look at the following CDA questions quoted from the Seven Scenarios paper:
"Does the tool support effective and efficient collaborative data analysis?"
"Does the tool support group insight?"
"Is social exchange around and communication about the data facilitated?"
"How is the collaborative visualization system used?"
"How are certain system features used during collaborative work? What are patterns of system use?"
"What is the process of collaborative analysis? What are users' requirements?"
Motivation
For my project 1 research, I worked with this Kaggle dataset to visualize the progression and breakdown of female participation in the Olympics. My classmates and I found the dataset very interesting, but we faced an obstacle to collaboratively viewing the dataset. I used Virtualitics to create graphs for my research questions, but the license only allowed one active user on my desktop account and only one Oculus Quest 2 could be linked to my Virtualitics license. Thus, I had to review the desktop graphs through Zoom screen share, and I had to work individually with classmates to hear their reactions to each graph. This severely limited collaboration and its associated benefits as well as greatly increased the time to complete a class activity.
Consequently, for project 2, I want to look at the popular dataset again, but this time, I want to use a different software that has a more expansive licensing properties and should enable easier collaboration. Specifically, I want to look at Immersion Analytics.
Milestones By Each Class

Wiki subpages pertaining to my decision process to not pursue my original CAD model project idea as well as my research into additional data visualization software
4/07
licensing access to a more accessible collaboration software (Immersion Analytics)
4/12
Wiki subpage documenting the download and installation process for Immersion Analytics as well as my first suggested instructions and takeaways
4/14

4/21
a completed testing activity for a two person collaboration effort using Immersion Analytics
4/26
completed class activity of collaboratively examining the Project 1 research questions
4/28
responses to the class activity followup Google Form asking the Seven Scenarios CDA evaluative questions
5/03
Wiki subpages documenting the Project 2 graphs, the comparative takeaways between Virtualitics and Immersion Analytics, and an analysis of the collaboration component of using Immersion Analytics' VR software for data visualization
5/05
Project 2 End Presentation that is a quick but comprehensive summary of my work and takeaways
Class Activity
split the class into groups of two
both group members will look at an assigned graph together (both in the VR software at the same time)
after discussing graphs in pairs, the class will come together and look at a graph all together
based on their pair and class collaborative experiences, students will complete a Google Form asking about the Seven Scenarios CDA questions
